I had more running problems this morning. I got about a mile into a 10-mile run before my I wanted to chop my leg off and beat myself with it. Here’s the thing: I… do not like running. I really am not the physical exercise type. If I could lose weight, or be active by doing nothing at all, I would. Running has its benefits; I’ve had some really great times with it, BUT all these pain-in-the-ass leg problems need to go away. I have stretched. I have rolled. I have sticked. I have yoga-ed, pilate-d, massaged. My leg sucks…. I’m not done yet.

Today I ran 18 miles. Eighteen. Very. Long. Miles. I woke up at 4:30 and slowly but surely got myself together. I ate breakfast – greek yogurt and cereal – got my nifty compression socks on (later, after the run was over, I would notice that I put them on the wrong feet), made sure I had my fuel belt and my keys and I was off. The first mile sucked – I’m pretty sure it took me 20 minutes. My calf was being an immediate bitch, and the pain shifted from my shin to my calf and back again…. I’m not done yet.
Calming the pre-18-miler nerves tonight by eating pasta. And drinking leftover Fat Tire. I’m not really sure that it’s working, but maybe there will be a placebo effect. In situations like these, it’s best to tell the brain to STFU. I’ll most likely go to bed in another hour, and I hope to do so telling myself positive things: “I feel good, I feel great, I feel wonderful…” This will be a lesson in mental toughness. Right now, I’m sort of consuming myself with the route in general. But, I’ve decided to just run, check my watch every now and… I’m not done yet.
As I’m quite literally nearing the end of August, I felt a bit of panic today as I made my workout calendar for the month of September and posted it on my work wall. The motivational quote I chose for the top: “Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice,” by Wayne Dyer. I don’t know who Wayne Dyer is, but… the quote worked for me. Especially because the marathon is a little over a month away. A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AWAY. AHHHHH! I’m going to keep working at it, the best I… I’m not done yet.
Today was a weird day. I had work, and wore my running group’s marathon shirt, only to realize about 3 hours in that the shirt was a little smelly and needed to be washed again. I dealt with it. I told myself to take a nap once I got home, and then seemingly forgot. I got about 30 minutes of a nap, which only left me more tired. And for about the billionth time, considered skipping my workout. However, I hadn’t done anything since my 8-mile run on Sunday and so I figured I should do this. On the way… I’m not done yet.
